Start Taking Your Children to See the Dentist at an Early Age for Good Oral Health

If you're a new parent and your child has just started teething, you may find yourself wondering when you should bring your little one for their first dentist appointment. Princeview Dental, a gentle family dentist in Etobicoke on the Kingsway, recommends bringing your child to see us once their milk teeth start to come through.

While this may seem like an early age, 30% of children suffer from some form of tooth decay due to poor oral hygiene. And like the old saying goes; you can never start too early!

A survey in the U.K. of 500 asked parents of children under the age of 12 about at what age and how often you should take your child to the dentist. The results were surprising: just over half of the respondents didn't take their kids to the dentist regularly and one in five thought they didn't have to start taking their children to the dentist until their baby teeth started to come in. Even more surprising, only 50% of fathers and 63% of mothers made sure that their kids brushed and flossed at least twice a day.

We recommend that you bring your child for an appointment to our family dentist in Etobicoke at least once before they turn two years old. We provide new parents with the best oral care advice for their little ones so they can avoid tooth decay and other oral hygiene issues.

But proper oral care doesn't have to stop with our family dentist in Etobicoke. Instill your children with a good oral care routine at an early age and emphasize the importance of taking good care of your teeth. Offer positive reinforcement for remembering to brush their teeth and flossing regularly.

We realize that going to the dentist for the first time can be a scary experience for a little one. That's why we strive to make your child's first appointment with our family dentist in Etobicoke as pleasant and comfortable as possible.
